- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Counseling, or psychotherapy, is a collaborative process where clients participate in regularly scheduled sessions, during which they engage in identifying challenges and needs, increasing insight and self-awareness, and developing strategies to reach the goals they desire.
Counseling does not have to be a long-term venture. We often employ short-term psychotherapy approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that have been shown to be very effective with many emotional and relationship difficulties.
At William D. Morgan, Psy.D. and Associates, we tailor the counseling approach to best address clients’ needs and goals. In addition to short-term approaches, we sometimes use longer-term, insight oriented approaches. Through these approaches, clients achieve success in making important changes, accelerating personal growth, attaining greater contentment, and enhancing personal effectiveness.
Additionally, we often collaborate with other professionals with whom our clients are working, such as psychiatrists, doctors, teachers, or guidance counselors. Such collaborations frequently aid the client's success.
We provide counseling and assessment services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, students, and individuals in career transition.
At William D. Morgan, Psy.D. and Associates, our services include quality psychological evaluations and testing for a number of needs and purposes. Testing takes place in a pleasant, comfortable, and private atmosphere. We pride ourselves on comprehensive psychological testing and evaluation and on producing reports that are detailed and comprehendible. These psychological evaluation services can be vital to understanding the nature of difficulties and formulating effective intervention strategies.
Testing procedures are customized to the nature of the situation and to the information desired. Some of the many tests and assessment procedures available include: IQ testing as well as extensive educational batteries for assessing learning problems fully, academic achievement, personality, mental health, attention/concentration, ADHD, behavior, career, and other tests.

Trauma / PTSD / EMDR
Traumas are powerful experiences that may have long-lasting effects for many individuals. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects many people and causes emotional distress and disrupts relationships. WDMA provides effective treatments for PTSD and similar problems, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Our counselors and therapists have advanced training in CBT and EMDR.
EMDR and CBT are evidenced-based treatments for PTSD. CBT helps clients reduce anxiety and fear by employing a number of effective strategies to overcome these troubling emotions. Distressing memories are one of the hallmarks of PTSD. The goal of EMDR therapy is to process these distressing memories, reducing their effects, and allowing clients to develop better coping mechanisms.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) — with or without hyperactivity — is recognized as one of the most common disorders of childhood and for many individuals continues to present challenges though adulthood. It affects many areas of life, such as academic and vocational success, personal and family relationships, emotions, and self-esteem. WDMA offers a wide range of therapeutic services designed to help individuals and families better cope and even succeed with the challenges of ADHD. Some counselors at WDMA have advanced expertise in ADHD.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
WDMA is pleased to offer CBT to help individuals overcome emotional and relationship problems. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that has been scientifically researched and found to be effective. In hundreds of research studies, CBT was validated as effective for many different disorders including various anxiety disorders and depression. CBT is also an effective approach to relationship and interpersonal problems. It is one of the few therapies to have such substantial scientific research behind it.
In contrast to many other types of therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is short-term, focused on the present, and problem-solving oriented. Clients learn specific skills that last a lifetime. CBT, as indicated in the name, involves cognitive and behavioral techniques that help clients change unhelpful distorted thinking and behaviors.
Some of our counselors and therapists at WDMA have advanced training in CBT. Click here for more information about CBT.
